Be Home blog regards the home as the place to keep fit and healthy. We have been reassured by a recent study that shows how activities like gardening, housework and DIY can ward off heart problems.
Academics point out that for those who are middle age leisure exercise could avoid heart disease by controlling inflammation.
Dr Mark Hamer, associate professor of epidemiology and public health at University College London (UCL), said: “It’s not just vigorous exercise and sports that are important. These leisure-time activities represent moderate intensity exercise that is important to health. It is especially important for older people to be physically active because it contributes to successful ageing.”
For those activities, we have found an inspiring online initiative, Make it and Mend it, nurturing creative sustainability. Upcycling your old sofa into a garden seat, growing your own veg or making over your bathroom without spending much, is a wise practice in the middle of tough times.
